on 20 april 2012 after trial @ crown court @ caernarfon before honour judge merfyn hughes qc , jury, mcdonald acquitted of rape of woman @ premier inn in rhuddlan on 30 may. co-defendant, , former manchester city teammate, ched evans convicted of charge, , sentenced 5 years imprisonment. mcdonald s lawyer stated after acquittal that: clayton mcdonald has maintained innocence start , relieved @ verdict. however, upset , disappointed regarding verdict given lifelong friend, ched evans, whom continue support in way possible. evans went on have conviction quashed, , found not guilty @ retrial in october 2016.


in october 2014, after ched evans released prison, mcdonald claimed career , life had been destroyed rape trial, though acquitted.



it’s hard move on publicity. have sympathy ched found innocent @ end of day. trouble is, mud sticks , have found difficult club take me on. cleared of rape ched’s case , subsequent publicity have destroyed life , career. had year of hell leading trial, , it’s not changed since. falsely accused of rape terrible. wasn’t guilty of had prove it. have tried rebuild life ever since court case have found near impossible. pro have try , cope it’s hard.
