romanesque tympanum above south side door of gothic st. nicholas & st. adalbert parish church


the oldest settlement końskie dates 11th century. burial ground period discovered in north part of town in 1925. końskie mentioned in historical sources in 1124 first time, prandota of prandocin (the progenitor of odrowąż family) recorded owner of settlement. next few centuries settlement owned odrowąż family. iwo odrowąż, bishop of kraków, founded parish , built church dedicated st. nicholas in years 1220-1224. church torn down in 15th century , new gothic 1 built in place in years 1492-1520. elements of older romanesque church saved in new 1 (e.g. romanesque tympanum, pictured). końskie received city rights king august iii sas on december 30, 1748.
