vodafone operates gsm (2g) mobile phone network @ 900 mhz , 1800 mhz, umts (3g) network @ 900 mhz , 2100 mhz, , 4g lte network on 1800 mhz, supporting 4g frequencies on 2600 mhz,2100 and 700 mhz. states network provides service in our mobile network covers on 98.5% of population, 4g extended coverage on 93% .


gsm coverage (2g)

vodafone operates nationwide gsm service in 900 mhz band. in areas high demand there additional gsm services operating in 1800 mhz band, existing 900 mhz cell sites, provide more capacity. areas both 900 mhz , 1800 mhz service cover major business districts , large shopping malls. in recent years vodafone has established cell sites provide 1800 mhz service difficult release spectrum more 900 mhz cell sites. phones sold since mid-1990s support both bands.

umts coverage (3g)

in main centres, vodafone operates umts (3g) service using 2100 mhz band. umts service provided same cell site 900 mhz and/or 1800 mhz gsm services. of existing 900 mhz sites built in 1990s when not expected 2100 mhz network built, hence existing 900 mhz network not @ optimised 2100 mhz service. due fact 900 mhz , 1800 mhz signals propagate further 2100 mhz signals, there many areas beyond 2100 mhz coverage umts phones have hand down 900 mhz or 1800 mhz gsm service. in recent years vodafone has established many individual 2100 mhz umts sites enhance 3g coverage.


in rural areas, vodafone has installed 900 mhz umts (3g) service alongside existing 900 mhz gsm (2g) service. 900 mhz umts service has same coverage area 900 mhz gsm service, instances of umts service being handed down gsm should occur far less in rural areas in areas covered 2100 mhz network. many older umts phones support 2100 mhz service these phones hand down 900 mhz gsm though there umts service available @ 900 mhz.


rural broadband initiative (rbi) coverage: vodafone have contract new zealand government provide fixed cellular access internet antennas mounted on outside of buildings, homes , businesses @ speeds of @ least 5mbit/s. of coverage of 2015 on 900mhz 3g (hands down 2g backup). january 2016, vodafone has actively extended 4g network throughout key rural areas, , on track deliver speeds high 100mbit/s.

mvno networks not have own cellular equipment, customers connect vodafone s network constantly, instead of jumping between networks. current mvnos running on vodafone s network include: black + white mobile.


this different 2degrees, offloads customers onto vodafone network when not in 2degrees mobile coverage zone. 2degrees has roaming agreement vodafone nz, , such, customers roam on network when have no coverage, otherwise connect 2degrees own equipment.

3g services

on wednesday 10 august 2005 vodafone introduced new 3g network employing umts technology used in europe , elsewhere. using standard, vodafone offers video calling, music downloads, sky mobile tv , other services vodafone live! portal.


vodafone began rolling out hspa+ data services on umts network in 2011; @ time of writing (may 2012), auckland, wellington , christchurch have coverage. hspa+ capable of theoretical maximum 168 mbit/s download speed , 22 mbit/s upload speed, although higher speeds supported in areas excellent radio signal.


vodafone launched hd voice on 7 november 2013 - high definition voice call technology. technology works on 3g hd voice compatible phones on vodafone vodafone voice calls.
