the denver area council of boy scouts of america headquartered in lakewood, colorado, , supports scouting units , youth in area of central colorado arapahoe , adams counties east continental divide.

organization

for traditional units, council split districts related geography. these districts are:

arapahoe — serving sheridan, littleton, englewood, roxborough, greenwood village, cherry hills, western centennial , highlands ranch
centennial — serving aurora, green valley ranch, bennett, strasburg, byers, deer trail, center, eastern centennial, foxfield , unincorporated arapahoe county
frontier — serving denver county
gateway — serving north jefferson, gilpin, clear creek , broomfield counties
pioneer trails — serving elbert, elizabeth, kiowa, franktown, castle rock, sedalia, louviers, larkspur , parker
timberline — serving jefferson, park , parts of clear creek counties
valley — serving adams county

the pioneer trails district new district, formed in 2004. broke off arapahoe district, deemed council large.

the council, also, has non-geographic districts support non-traditional programs operated council. these districts are:

the denver area council operates camps in 2 locations in colorado. primary camp, peaceful valley scout ranch, located in elbert, colorado. second, smaller camp, camp tahosa, located near nederland, colorado.

tahosa high adventure base

camp tahosa (th) camp near ward, colorado, serving denver area council of boy scouts of america. primary camp denver area until later 1970s, when shut down because of damage caused environmental factors, replaced peaceful valley scout ranch. camp serves high adventure base. high adventure treks camp tahosa lead scouts adjacent forest.

tahosa home separate camping programs both summer , non summer usage: september may, th offers okpik, challenge (cope), , weekend cmaping. during summer months, th offers variety of programs including national youth leadership training, mountain men (provisional camping), alpine adventure, tahosa trek, , eaglepoint.

alpine adventure 6 night mountaineering adventure in high country of colorado, combining training facilities of tahosa high adventure base lakes , vistas of indian peaks wilderness area. scout members of 12-person team, learning , applying skills conquer strenuous challenges of program in dynamic mountain environment.

tahosa trek started in 1995 provide basic knowledge of backpacking/low impact camping, program offers more advanced training , longer, customized treks units of boy scouts of america.

okpik weekend extreme winter camping experience design train scouts in winter survival.

the challenge part of project cope program encourages youth , adults expand mental creativity, increase physical abilities, promote leadership skills , instill personal confidence.

eaglepoint newest addition tahosa. founded in 2000 @ peaceful valley scout ranch, eaglepoint troop run camp access tahosa high adventure base facilities. small staff, troops can build own schedule , whatever week @ camp. program had predecessor started 1991 called eagle quest.

peaceful valley scout ranch (pv) main camping location of denver area council of boy scouts of america. camp, built in 1960s army corps of engineers, replacement original camp, camp tahosa. camp located outside elbert, colorado.

peaceful valley scout ranch home 3 separate camps: camp cris dobbins; camp cortlandt dietler; , magness adventure camp. tahosa, peaceful valley hosted troop-run camp called eaglepoint; however, of 2009, eaglepoint defunct (the eaglepoint program @ tahosa still active, though). additionally, in 2005, boy scouts of america denver area council acquired large section of land adjacent peaceful valley, , location of magness adventure camp cub scouts.

facilities include travis shooting sports facility, contains olympic shotgun shooting range, gates aquatic center, horse corral, bb gun range, 2 lakes, , 3 above mentioned camps.

camp cris dobbins flagship camp of peaceful valley. camp home travis shooting facility, includes olympic shotgun range, million dollar gates aquatic center, dining hall, , on twenty campsites. camp, capacity of around 700 campers, offers dozens of merit badges , programs scouts of ages.

camp dietler, founded in 1988 william eck, patrol style summer camp experience. while merit badges offered, main focus on patrol method. carried out through patrol cooking, events determined patrol leader s council, , several high adventure outposts. camp named cortlandt dietler, donated money build camp commissary.

magness adventure camp denver area council s cub scouting camp. camp has 3 shelters, each campsite housing eighty tents. program includes lake activities, bb gun range, archery range, added slingshot paint ball range , firewatch tower overlooks elbert county. camp available rental outside groups, , frequented groups such denver s high school rotc , girls groups church of jesus christ of latter-day saints.

tahosa lodge

tahosa lodge #383, chartered in 1948, serves 1218 arrowmen of 2004. largest lodge in colorado. lodge totem coney (pika), , name translates dwellers on mountain tops in kiowa language. lodge divided 7 chapters correspond 7 districts of denver area council. tahosa lodge holds ordeal weekends , other events @ 2 council camps, peaceful valley scout ranch , tahosa scout camp.
