uranus voyager 2
the exploration of uranus has been entirely through voyager 2 spacecraft, no other visits planned. given axial tilt of 97.77°, polar regions exposed sunlight or darkness long periods, scientists not sure expect @ uranus. closest approach uranus occurred on 24 january 1986. voyager 2 studied planet s unique atmosphere , magnetosphere. voyager 2 examined ring system , moons of uranus including 5 of known moons, while discovering additional ten unknown moons.
images of uranus proved have uniform appearance, no evidence of dramatic storms or atmospheric banding evident on jupiter , saturn. great effort required identify few clouds in images of planet. magnetosphere of uranus, however, proved unique , proved profoundly affected planet s unusual axial tilt. in contrast bland appearance of uranus itself, striking images obtained of moons of uranus, including evidence miranda had been unusually geologically active.
