the allocation ranking mechanism used determine mls club has first priority acquire player in mls allocation list. mls allocation list contains select u.s. national team players , players transferred outside of mls garnering transfer fee of @ least $500,000. allocations ranked in reverse order of finish 2016 season, taking playoff performance account. 2 expansion teams take top spots.


once club uses allocation ranking acquire player, drops bottom of list. ranking can traded provided part of compensation received in return club’s ranking. @ times each club assigned 1 ranking. rankings reset @ end of each mls season.
