dorsetshire @ maximum 193.67 metres (635.4 ft) long overall, , had beam of 20.12 m (66.0 ft) , draught of 6.37 m (20.9 ft). displaced 9,925 9,975 long tons (10,084 10,135 t) @ standard displacement, in compliance tonnage restriction of washington naval treaty, , 13,425 long tons (13,640 t) @ full combat load. dorsetshire propelled 4 parsons steam turbines drove 4 screw propellers. steam provided 8 oil-fired 3-drum water-tube boilers. turbines rated @ 80,000 shaft horsepower (60,000 kw) , produced top speed of 32.3 kn (59.8 km/h; 37.2 mph). ship had capacity of 3,210 t (3,160 long tons; 3,540 short tons) of fuel oil built, provided cruising radius of 12,500 nautical miles (23,200 km; 14,400 mi) @ speed of 12 knots (22 km/h; 14 mph). had crew of 710 officers , enlisted men.


dorsetshire armed main battery of 8 bl 8-inch (20 cm) mk viii 50-cal. guns in 4 twin turrets, in 2 superfiring pairs forward , aft. built, cruiser had secondary battery included 4 4 in (100 mm) dual-purpose guns (dp) in single mounts. carried 4 qf 2-pounder anti-aircraft guns, in single mounts. armament rounded out 8 21 in (530 mm) torpedo tubes mounted in 2 quadruple launchers.


in 1931, dorestshire began carry seaplane; catapult installed following year allow launch aircraft while underway. in 1937, secondary battery overhauled. 8 qf 4-inch mk v dp guns in twin turrets replaced single mounts, , single 2-pounders replaced 8 twin-mounts. during world war ii, anti-aircraft battery strengthened addition of 9 20 mm (0.79 in) guns.
