eight more kills scored in battle of britain between 24 august 1940 , 1 september 1940. recognised 1 of cream of few, allard selected fighter command have portrait drawn cuthbert orde, sitting on same day awarded second distinguished flying medal, 13 september 1940.


in october squadron withdrawn become night-fighter unit. awarded distinguished flying cross (dfc) same month.


on 6 december 1940, allard promoted pilot officer flying officer.


on 13 march 1941, allard scheduled take newly promoted pilot officer francis frank walker-smith raf ford collect version of twin-engined douglas boston (known raf douglas havoc , used night-fighting duties). @ last moment new zealand ace pilot officer william henry ace hodgson (who reputed have girlfriend @ raf ford) hitched lift. loose gun inspection panel became dislodged , flew jamming rudder. caused aircraft crash, killing 3 occupants @ wimbish, close raf debden.


allard , walker-smith had seen action part of british expeditionary force (based @ lille/seclin, france) in 1940 , 3 had success battle of britain pilots.


allard buried alongside hodgson , walker-smith @ saffron walden cemetery.
