the university campus home numerous notable structures, such main building, four-story administration building dating 1882, gutted fire on may 15, 2001. cause of blaze attributed welders torch during repairs building s roof. total costs reconstruction after fire exceeded $17 million. patterson office tower tallest building on campus. university home several major construction projects, including albert b. chandler hospital expansion. of 2016, construction projects include student center renovation , expansion, , alumni gym.


the university of kentucky once operated 14 community colleges more 100 extended sites, centers , campuses under kentucky community , technical college system, relinquished control under postsecondary education improvement act of 1997. network of community colleges known kentucky community , technical college system (kctcs). adjoining lexington community college, despite reorganization of community colleges, remained integrated university, separated university of kentucky in 2004 , became part of kctcs; known bluegrass community , technical college.


the college of engineering operates satellite campus in paducah, located on campus of west kentucky community , technical college.
