it announced in 2011 illinois institute of technology, mies restructured , designed master plan going build permanent exhibition space huge wardrobe formerly in house. wardrobe had been extensively damaged in 1996, 1998, , 2008 floods, large size rendering possible evacuation attempt costly , difficult. in attempt protect wardrobe, farnsworth house curators decided have wardrobe on permanent display near visitor center, above 500-year flood plain. illinois institute of technology students under direction of professor frank flury have been involved in design , construction of structure, , wardrobe better protected future visitors. students have nicknamed building barnsworth . scheduled completed in september 2012.
