rnas burscough closed flying in may 1946. thereafter, hangars used storage of aircraft engines , other faa equipment, under direction of rnas stretton (a.k.a. hms blackcap), until both airfields disposed of in 1957.
during 1960s, civil cropduster agricultural aircraft, both fixed wing , helicopters, used otherwise inactive airfield operating base refuelling , filling aircraft s spray tanks.
as of 2009, 4 naval hangars still survive in use non-aviation purposes, , used merseyside transport trust, late 1970s until january 2012, when charity moved new premises within industrial estate. 4 hangars stand empty , unused. these 4 hangars include pentad type hangars, , located on western edge of old airfield.
the site being developed large supermarket having opened; there several historic photographs , maps on display in cafe of wartime site.
