in 2005, david clowney led hokies in receptions (34), receiving yards (619), , second in average yards per catch (18.2). david played in 13 games virginia tech , started 12 of them. unfortunately, productive year, recorded 3 touchdown receptions. clowney got off fast start catching game winning 19-yard touchdown pass marcus vick in season opener @ nc state. david finished season opener 3 receptions 30 yards , touchdown. during virginia tech s second game against duke in durham, nc, david had 3 receptions 62 yards , touchdown. hokies third game on schedule first home game of 2005 campaign against ohio. clowney started off great making 52-yard grab, ended game 2 catches 57 yards. in next 2 games, home against georgia tech , @ west virginia, clowney record same exact stat sheet 3 catches 47 yards. while facing marshall, recorded 48-yard touchdown catch , finished game 2 catches 56 yards , 1 touchdown. although david not score touchdown remainder of season, against maryland, had 3 receptions , set 2005 game-high receiving yardage 76. following week versus boston college, clowney remained target 3 receptions 58 yards. while facing rival, miami, virginia tech s offense shut down , david came away 1 catch 22 yards. improved, following hokies first loss of season, recording 3 catches 42 yards @ virginia. though virginia tech relied on rushing attack defeat north carolina, clowney productive receiver 2 receptions 18 yards. in acc championship game, loss against florida state, clowney recorded 4 catches 35 yards. virginia tech played louisville on january 2, 2006 in 2006 gator bowl. david led team in receiving yards , made 2 catches 69 yards including career-long 54-yard reception.
