rules, 1st format (1995–1997)
thirty contestants in contestant pool, selected sent in losing scratch-off lottery tickets. alexander/stahl spin wheel hooked randomizer. when wheel stopped, player selected play game, in addition winning set of lottery tickets. these rules similar illinois instant riches.
beach ball
12 sandcastles placed on rotating platform. apparatus beach ball nearby.
the contestant turn his/her platform , pull lever release beach ball. ball swing through platform 6 times, knocking on sandcastles. each sandcastle remaining after 1 round worth $1,000 - each 1 remaining after round 2 worth additional $2,000.
the contestant stop @ point or opt 1 more round of 6 swings. 3 sandcastles placed on platform, or if there more 3 still standing after round two, left alone. if @ least 3 left standing after round, contestant s winnings doubled. otherwise, contestant lose half of his/her winnings. (if contestant won, he/she offered chance again 8 swings same rules before.) maximum payoff $144,000.
grand prix
contestants shown board 3 racecars - red, yellow, , blue. shown board of 12 numbered boxes, , asked call out numbers, 1 @ time. finding 3 of color ended game , awarded contestant cash prize -- $5,000 (for red), $25,000 (for yellow), or cash prize of $100,000 (for blue). if blue reached goal first, contestant choose 1 of 4 letters (a, b, c, d), each of hid different cash amount (two each of $50,000 , $100,000).
splashdown
the player faces board of 18 numbered rods, split 3 rows (1-4 on top, 5-10 in middle, , 11-18 on bottom), each holding colored ball. rods 1-4 held 2 red s , green, rest held yellow balls. player draws number, , number s rod gets removed playfield.
if yellow ball splashes down water, player wins $10,000. if no balls splash down, player wins $1,000.
the way game ends (besides player saying ll stop ) if red ball or green ball splashes down. if red ball splashes down, either or other colored balls - green 1 - player loses half winnings. if green ball splashes down no red ball, player s total bumped $100,000.
steeple chase
in first round, player set 6 balls - 4 gold, 2 black - down track of ramps. balls split , collide until reached bottom of track , crossed finish line. if black ball finished first, player won $5,000; if red ball finished first, player got $10,000.
for second round, there 4 gold , 4 black balls used. black ball winning race earned player $5,000 more, while gold ball won $25,000. after third round, player either play third round 3 gold , 4 black balls, or 6 gold , 3 black balls. second set, however, cost player half his/her winnings @ point. black ball coming in first added nothing, gold ball finishing first added $50,000, if gold balls came in first, second, , third, player won $100,000.
freefall
the contestant pulls lever launch ping pong ball top of board, through swinging paddles, through series of pegs, , 1 of 8 slots @ bottom of board. landing in empty slot worth $5,000. each empty slot accumulated additional $5,000. if ping pong ball landed in slot occupied, he/she issued strike.
after 2 strikes, contestant stop , take winnings, or opt pull. if ping pong ball landed in empty slot, contestant have his/her money doubled, , offered pull. if contestant earned third strike, lose half of winnings. play continue until 8 slots filled, third strike issued, or contestant chose stop. theoretical maximum payoff $640,000, require each of contestant s first 3 balls land in same slot, followed each following ball landing in new slot. odds of happening approximately 1 in 213,044.
this game originated illinois lottery game show illinois instant riches, under name double dollars. later adapted game called freefall different rules.
