on may 3, 2007 kreis retired professional competition , announced new head coach of real salt lake, retiring player , taking on coaching reins john ellinger. @ time of hire, kreis became youngest active head coach in mls @ 34 years , 127 days. led real salt lake first-post season playoff appearance in 2008 , in 2009 coached team first mls cup championship. kreis youngest coach in mls history win mls cup. following 2009 mls cup win, kreis lead real salt lake playoff appearances in every subsequent season through 2013, including appearance in 2013 mls cup, rsl lost sporting kansas city in dramatic fashion on penalty kicks. kreis guided real salt lake concacaf champions league campaign in 2011. real salt lake won group , made way final, lose 3-2 on aggregate c.f. monterrey.


real salt lake signed kreis contract extension on march 24, 2011 kept him @ rsl helm through 2013 season, after left rsl become head coach of new york city fc. real salt lake has retired kreis number 9 jersey playing days.

on december 11, 2013, kreis announced first head coach of new york city fc, having reached end of contract @ real salt lake , declining extension offer rsl take new york city fc position. move came 4 days after missed out on lifting second mls cup utah team, losing on penalty kicks sporting kansas city. revealed in announcement contract, starting on january 1, 2014, see him begin traveling manchester in england familiarize himself set-up of franchise-owners manchester city.


kreis inaugural season nycfc ended in disappointment. club finished 10–17–7 record in regular season placing 8th in eastern conference, failing make 2015 mls cup playoffs. , club parted ways on november 2, 2015.


orlando city sc

on july 19, 2016, kreis hired orlando city sc replace outgoing inaugural coach adrian heath. reunite 2 of assistant coaches, miles joseph , c. j. brown, @ orlando., led them orlando city s first win in 2 months.
