the strait 17 km (11 mi) long , @ 3.7 km (2.3 mi) wide. located in northern part of upernavik archipelago, inner waterway of inussulik bay, linking alison bay in northeast. in northwest, strait bounded mountainous kiatassuaq island. in northwest, strait splits 2 channels, small milissua island straddling middle.


the northern channel narrow, , both channels choked icebergs greenland ice sheet (greenlandic: sermersuaq) reaching waterline @ east end of strait, , confluence alison bay. southern coast of strait undeveloped, formed sanningassorsuaq peninsula, , nunatak @ root.
