the suwannee river area council, active 1924 present, encompasses 13 counties in north florida , south georgia. council service center , central headquarters in tallahassee, florida. on past 90 years or so, suwannee river area council has offered traditional scouting programs @ several camps. first camp orchard pond, located near tallahassee. orchard pond small camp, having 4 campsites during entire lifetime. used 1927 1947, when sold. council moved summer camp operations camp semialachee, located on west side of moore lake south of sr 20 on silver lake road west of tallahassee. semialachee got name indirectly union of seminole , apalachee , 2 primary groups of native americans in united states north florida region. camp semialachee kept until 1965, when camping moved wallwood scout reservation, located south of quincy, florida. land new camp donated dr. charlie k. wall , wife margaret gift scouting. buildings , equipment donated various community leaders, scouters, , organizations. dedication of wallwood came in 1964, buildings constructed in 1965, , first camping season summer of 1966. wallwood covers on 500 acres (2.0 km) of land bordered on 1 side branch of lake talquin. camp offers variety of scouting programs, including cope, opportunities other civic organizations. there 2 camping faciliies @ wallwood reservation - camp nea mathla , camp tom matherly.
