the grave of flora stevenson, dean cemetery, edinburgh


in 1899 new school @ comely bank, edinburgh named after her, , continues flora stevenson primary school. last few years of life brought further honours: honorary lld edinburgh university in 1903, portrait commissioned public subscription , painted alexander roche in 1904, freedom of city of edinburgh in 1905. final years spent @ house @ 13 randolph crescent in edinburgh s west end.


she ill , operation in st. andrews failed help. died there in hotel , brought edinburgh funeral service , burial in dean cemetery on 30 september 1905, 2 days after death. streets on way cemetery filled many mourners, including 2 or 3 thousand schoolchildren.


her grave lies on southern boundary wall above southern terrace. sisters , mother lie her. father lies on left side.
