born in uppsala on 21 september 1827, schenson daughter of academy treasurer john schenson , school administrator maria magdalena hahr. there no records of education or of how became familiar photography.

by 1860s, had opened studio in uppsala, becoming 1 of sweden s earliest female professional photographers , first establish business in uppsala. in addition photographs of uppsala cathedral, produced series of 20 albumen prints tribute swedish botanist carl linnaeus (1707–1778). in 1880s , 90s, produced further technically perfect series of cathedral showing progress , results of restoration work. images reveal not technical skills aptitude @ positioning camera obtain architecturally excellent images. although schenson s negatives have disappeared, photographs of cathedral under repair can seen in album @ university library.

emma schenson died in uppsala on 17 march 1913. remembered 1 of sweden s earliest female professional photographers along rosalie sjöman in stockholm, hilda sjölin in malmö , wilhelmina lagerholm in Örebro.
