the first national wider opportunity senior girl scouts, recall riches restore ruins, held in central city in 1973. in 1979, sky hi ski, national wider opportunity, held @ ymca snow mountain ranch near granby , senior girl scout troop mile hi council participates in opening ceremonies @ winter olympics @ lake placid.


as of october 1, 2007, girl scouts state joined girl scouts of colorado council.

tahosa high adventure base

camp tahosa (th) camp near ward, colorado, serving denver area council of boy scouts of america. primary camp denver area until later 1970s, when shut down because of damage caused environmental factors, replaced peaceful valley scout ranch. camp serves high adventure base. high adventure treks camp tahosa lead scouts adjacent forest.


tahosa home separate camping programs both summer , non summer usage: september may, th offers okpik, challenge (cope), , weekend cmaping. during summer months, th offers variety of programs including national youth leadership training, mountain men (provisional camping), alpine adventure, tahosa trek, , eaglepoint.


alpine adventure 6 night mountaineering adventure in high country of colorado, combining training facilities of tahosa high adventure base lakes , vistas of indian peaks wilderness area. scout members of 12-person team, learning , applying skills conquer strenuous challenges of program in dynamic mountain environment.


tahosa trek started in 1995 provide basic knowledge of backpacking/low impact camping, program offers more advanced training , longer, customized treks units of boy scouts of america.


okpik weekend extreme winter camping experience design train scouts in winter survival.


the challenge part of project cope program encourages youth , adults expand mental creativity, increase physical abilities, promote leadership skills , instill personal confidence.


eaglepoint newest addition tahosa. founded in 2000 @ peaceful valley scout ranch, eaglepoint troop run camp access tahosa high adventure base facilities. small staff, troops can build own schedule , whatever week @ camp. program had predecessor started 1991 called eagle quest.

peaceful valley scout ranch (pv) main camping location of denver area council of boy scouts of america. camp, built in 1960s army corps of engineers, replacement original camp, camp tahosa. camp located outside elbert, colorado.


peaceful valley scout ranch home 3 separate camps: camp cris dobbins; camp cortlandt dietler; , magness adventure camp. tahosa, peaceful valley hosted troop-run camp called eaglepoint; however, of 2009, eaglepoint defunct (the eaglepoint program @ tahosa still active, though). additionally, in 2005, boy scouts of america denver area council acquired large section of land adjacent peaceful valley, , location of magness adventure camp cub scouts.


facilities include travis shooting sports facility, contains olympic shotgun shooting range, gates aquatic center, horse corral, bb gun range, 2 lakes, , 3 above mentioned camps.


camp cris dobbins flagship camp of peaceful valley. camp home travis shooting facility, includes olympic shotgun range, million dollar gates aquatic center, dining hall, , on twenty campsites. camp, capacity of around 700 campers, offers dozens of merit badges , programs scouts of ages.


camp dietler, founded in 1988 william eck, patrol style summer camp experience. while merit badges offered, main focus on patrol method. carried out through patrol cooking, events determined patrol leader s council, , several high adventure outposts. camp named cortlandt dietler, donated money build camp commissary.


magness adventure camp denver area council s cub scouting camp. camp has 3 shelters, each campsite housing eighty tents. program includes lake activities, bb gun range, archery range, added slingshot paint ball range , firewatch tower overlooks elbert county. camp available rental outside groups, , frequented groups such denver s high school rotc , girls groups church of jesus christ of latter-day saints.


tahosa lodge

tahosa lodge #383, chartered in 1948, serves 1218 arrowmen of 2004. largest lodge in colorado. lodge totem coney (pika), , name translates dwellers on mountain tops in kiowa language. lodge divided 7 chapters correspond 7 districts of denver area council. tahosa lodge holds ordeal weekends , other events @ 2 council camps, peaceful valley scout ranch , tahosa scout camp.

the great southwest council serves durango , mesa verde areas of colorado, , includes cascade boy scout camp on national register of historic places.

longs peak council of boy scouts of america headquartered in greeley, colorado. named after tallest peak in council territory, longs peak council serves scouting youth in northeastern colorado north of denver, southeastern wyoming , panhandle of western nebraska, , chartered bsa organize, extend, support, , control scouting program within exclusive territory. wyobraska council of scottsbluff merged longs peak council in 1973.

camp charles jeffrey , soaring eagle feature number of summer program areas including rock climbing @ pancake climbing base , on of many peaks in camp, c.o.p.e. (challenging outdoor personal experience), shooting sports, scout skills, handicraft, , nature studies offered through traditional merit badge program. camp has scouting museum , chuck wagon cooking area traditional dutch oven meals prepared daily. scout units can choose between dining hall experience or patrol cook option meals cooked @ campsite.


elkhorn high adventure base open older scouts , venture crews week of backpacking rockies. backpacking treks of various difficulty levels offered on ranch property , in nearby routt, roosevelt, , arapahoe national forests. shooting sports, c.o.p.e, climbing , repelling, horse program , white water rafting activities round out week-long treks or 10-day-long super-treks.


jack nicol cub scout camp newest resident camp on ranch, completed in 2001. offers age appropriate programs not designed rank advancement. camp nicol consists of 3 major themed program areas (fort unfug, castle walker , everett seaport) , offers summer program featuring new camp-wide theme each year. 2014 theme time travel. program activities include bb gun , archery shooting, hiking, handicrafts, hiking, games , light parade around lake @ night.


ben delatour scout ranch includes summer camp , year-round camping, number of buildings available year-round use. ranch has been active site sustainable forestry , in 2011, ranch became protected future development through conservation easement conservation fund, longs peak council, , colorado state forest service.


chimney park scout camp

chimney park boy scout camp located in snowy range mountains, approximately 33 miles (53 km) west of laramie, wyoming on highway 230 , 6.4 miles (10.3 km) west of woods landing, wyoming. approximate coordinates cabin 41° 4 19.78 n 106° 6 29.2 w (nad83/wgs84).


chimney park boy scout camp offers year-round camping, winter camps, @ altitude 9,000 feet (2,700 m). winter snow depth varies typically 30 150 cm (1 5 feet), , winter daytime high temperatures varies typically -9 +7 °c (+15 +45 °f) winter nighttime low temperatures vary typically -26 0 °c (-15 +32 °f). lodge stove , fireplace available. lodge use must reserved through longs peak council office. there usage fee. see [1] more information.


camp laramie peak

camp laramie peak, @ base of black mountain near wheatland, wyoming, offers summer camp , year-round camping. purchased in 1920 group of volunteers wanting place take scouts in wilderness. rugged terrain, rambling brooks, , mountain backdrop offers troops place experience traditional camp experience including merit badge camp program. camp offers outstanding first year camper program, horseback riding, rock climbing, ziplines, mountain boarding , mountain biking.


hiking available in camp , in nearby medicine bow national forest, including top of laramie peak. elevation @ camp approximately 8,000 feet (2,400 m), , has summer temperatures range 40s @ night 90s during day.


camp patiya

camp patiya 30-acre camping , day use camp 7 miles west of boulder, colorado. camp patiya started camp fire girls. camp fire council purchased original twenty acres camp in 1960 , began holding group , family camps shortly thereafter. buildings on site constructed between 1963 , 1981. in 1977, additional ten acres of land donated, bringing camp present size. camp fire continued hold group camping year round , day camps in summers. in 1980s, membership in camp fire declined. in 1987, determined goals operating camp best met transferring ownership longs peak council, boy scouts of america.


the camp offers campsites, picnic areas, sheltered cooking sites, 2 cabins sleeping indoors, training , meeting areas both indoor , outdoor settings, plenty of room games , activity, , flush toilets.


kola lodge

kola lodge #464, chartered in 1951, serves 457 arrowmen of 2004. totem of lodge fire of friendship centered in gray arrowhead red feather in background, , name translates friend in lakota language. in 1973, kola lodge absorbed wiyaka luta #403 of wyo-braska council.


pikes peak council






the pikes peak council (60) of boy scouts of america, headquartered in colorado springs, colorado. named after famous peak in council territory, upon america beautiful written, pikes peak council provides scouting youth in east-central colorado, including park, teller, el paso, elbert, lincoln, kit carson , cheyenne counties.


as longs peak council, there officially no apostrophe in name, due ruling mountain board on geographic names.


on board space shuttle challenger when disintegrated in 1986 american flag sponsored troop 514 of monument, colorado. when challenger wreckage retrieved bottom of atlantic ocean, flag found, sealed in plastic bag, intact , unscathed.

the council camp, camp alexander, located in eleven mile canyon in pike national forest approximately 45 miles (72 km) west of colorado springs, , 2 miles (3 km) south of lake george, in park county, donated in 1946 j. don alexander of alexander film company. there series of burma shave-style signs on main road camp, each sign having 1 of points of scout law. camp alexander between 8200 , 8,600 feet (2,600 m) elevation. camp area consists of hills, low mountains, , valleys covered mix of ponderosa pine forests, high-altitude grasslands, , wetland vegetation along lake , stream. in 2012 springer wildfire, camp evacuated, , parts of camp used firefighters staging , defensible spaces.

mic-o-say lodge #541, chartered in 1959, serves 168 arrowmen of 2004. lodge totem eagle. prior 1960 there not order of arrow lodge (oa) serving western colorado council (wc-c). council honor camping organization had been tribe of mic-o-say (mos) (also existing in councils in kansas , missouri) had been founded h. roe bartle. however, arrival of new wc-c scout executive, decision made discontinue mos , replace oa lodge officially recognized bsa. compromise, lodge allowed retain name mic-o-say , continue of mos insignia , traditions. traditional mos eagle claws permitted worn youth , adult members suspended french braid spiral lanyard in tribal official red, white , blue craftstrip colors.

the steve fossett spirit of adventure ranch (soar) launched in summer 2014. camp located in colorado rockies near eastern entrance of glenwood canyon, 11 miles off of i-70 dotsero exit. offerings include high adventure (i.e. white water rafting, horseback riding, climbing 14 ers, hut hut mountain biking, backpacking) trail first class , merit badges. steve fossett soar provides opportunities high adventure tenderfoot eagle.


spanish peaks scout ranch

the spanish peaks scout ranch (spsr) located near walsenburg, colorado , borders spanish peaks wilderness. local council camp of santa fe trail council based out of garden city, kansas. camp gives program geared toward outdoor education such wilderness backpacking, climbing, , outdoor skills. in 2013, camp partially destroyed wildfire destroyed on 13,500 acres. camp has since been rebuilt , has re-opened operation.
