biography
early years

the son of burton caine, professor @ temple law school, caine began playing piano @ 7 , studied french jazz pianist bernard peiffer @ 12. later studied @ university of pennsylvania, came under tutelage of george crumb. gained greater familiarity classical music in period , worked @ clubs in philadelphia.

caine played professionally after 1981, , 1985 had recording debut rochester-gerald veasley band. in 1980s, moved new york city, continues live. solo recording debut in 1992. appeared on klezmer album (don byron plays music of mickey katz, 1993) , other recordings modern jazz musicians don byron , dave douglas, among many others.

later years

caine has recorded 16 classical albums. 1997 jazz tribute gustav mahler received award german mahler society, while outraging jury members. caine has reworked bach s goldberg variations, beethoven s diabelli variations, music wagner, schumann , mozart.

in 2009, caine nominated grammy in category of best classical crossover album work othello syndrome , re-imagining verdi opera otello modern piece featuring soul singer bunny sigler.

he composer-in-residence of los angeles chamber orchestra 2005-2009. became united states artists fellow in 2010. composer-in-residence @ mannes college 2013–2014 .

the bedrock project , other collaborations

in 2001, teamed drummer zach danziger conceive original project fusing live jungle , drum n bass beats fusion jazz called uri caine bedrock 3 . have toured worldwide, including new york-based dj olive.

also in 2001, released drummer ahmir questlove thompson of roots , christian mcbride album called philadelphia experiment contains jazz, funk, instrumental hip hop , jazz fusion. album produced aaron levinson , features collaborations such pat martino on guitar , jon swana on trumpet.

in 2006, recorded album of composition john zorn s second masada book called moloch: book of angels volume 6. in november 2012, caine collaborated drummer han bennink release live album entitled sonic boom. in 2008 special guest of italian jazz awards red carpet show in genoa (italy) @ teatro della tosse.
