the circular quay, central station colonnade via pitt , castlereagh streets tram line extremely busy service passengers transferring suburban trains @ central, particularly prior opening of city underground railway lines in 1926. trams operated central station running northbound along pitt street circular quay forming loop (running southbound down castlereagh street) , central station. these tracks used city route eastern , south-western routes during busy periods. line closed on 28 september 1957, replaced bus service. line made use of sandstone viaduct onto colonnade @ central station, has been reused dulwich hill line part of sydney s modern light rail network since 1997.
