a tropical depression formed 140 mi (230 km) east-southeast of ocean city, maryland, on september 2. depression drifted southward , reached tropical storm intensity later day. based on observations ships on september 3, cyclone peaked maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 km/h) , minimum barometric pressure of 1,007 mbar (29.7 inhg). storm began moving southwestward @ faster pace. late on september 5, cyclone weakened tropical depression , curved west-southwestward. shortly after 06:00 utc on september 6, system made landfall near midway, georgia, winds of 35 mph (55 km/h). 12 hours later, depression dissipated on southwest georgia. strongest wind speed associated storm 37 mph (60 km/h) in charleston, south carolina.
