the stadium designed seattle architect george w. stoddard, known work on green lake aqua theater , south stands of husky stadium. stadium opened on september 26, 1947, during jamboree featuring 8 of city s high school football teams. memorial stadium dedicated later year in memory of seattle youth gave lives in world war ii. memorial wall @ east end inscribed names of on 700 fallen individuals. following year, stadium hosted first widespread local television broadcast in puget sound region, turkey day high school football game between west seattle , wenatchee.
