after first outing in 1984, schlesser began compete regularly in paris-dakar rally in 1989. in 1992 began build own dune buggies compete in dakar , other desert marathons , european bajas. first buggy, porsche-powered schlesser original, debuted in 1992 in baja portugal 1000, schlesser won outright, beating works citroën cars two-wheel drive vehicle , without navigator side.


he went on several 2wd class , overall wins following years, before taking overall victory in 1999 , 2000 editions of dakar (respectively, granada-dakar , paris-dakar-cairo). in 2001 dakar near victory penalised 1 hour unsportsmanlike conduct after illegally blocking closest competitor both @ start , during penultimate stage. won fia cross country rally world cup 1998 2002 , 2 wd fia cross country rally world cup several times.


schlesser won every edition of africa eco race establishment in 2009 2014.
