2011

to start 2011 season, cecil went 1–2 6.86 era, led blue jays optioning him triple-a, in order make room chris woodward on 25-man roster. later recalled in late june , lost in first start, against pittsburgh pirates. on july 24, pitched first complete game shutout against texas rangers. cecil finished 2011 season 4–11 record , era of 4.73.

2012

cecil did not make blue jays roster out of spring training, , assigned triple-a las vegas. after kyle drabek placed on disabled list, cecil called on june 15. after posting 2–4 record 5.72 era through 9 starts, cecil demoted triple-a las vegas 51s on august 4.

2013

cecil started 2013 season in blue jays bullpen. on june 19, against colorado rockies, cecil broke club record facing consecutive batters without allowing hit, set david cone 36. cecil s hitless streak ended after 43 consecutive batters on june 25, against former teammate yunel escobar , tampa bay rays. on july 6, cecil named al all-star team, special cecil considering fact rare mid relief pitcher earn all-star appearance. cecil pitched  ⁄3 of inning in all-star game, striking out domonic brown on 3 pitches. on july 31, cecil recorded first career save in 5–2 win on oakland athletics. placed on disabled list on september 17, ending 2013 campaign 5–1 record, 2.82 earned run average, , 70 strikeouts on 60 ⁄3 innings.

in january 2014, cecil filed salary arbitration toronto, came terms on 1-year, $1.3 million contract on january 17. pitched entire season out of bullpen, making career-high 66 appearances. in 53 ⁄3 innings pitched, cecil posted 2–3 record 2.70 era , 76 strikeouts. recorded 5 saves, , gave 2 home runs entire season.

2015

on january 15, cecil signed one-year, $2.475 million contract toronto avoid salary arbitration. departure of casey janssen in offseason, role of closer left vacant spring training. on march 24, manager john gibbons named cecil blue jays closer open 2015 season. cecil struggled open 2015 season, , lost closer role rookie miguel castro. on april 28, cecil moved closer role. after yielding 8 earned runs in previous 2 ⁄3 innings pitched, cecil again removed closer role on june 23. june 24 through end of season, cecil did not allow earned run, lowering era 5.96 2.48. named postseason roster , appeared in both of blue jays first 2 games, suffered calf injury in second game. afterward determined miss remainder of postseason tear in left calf muscle.

2016

on january 15, 2016, cecil , blue jays avoided salary arbitration agreeing one-year, $3.8 million contract. cecil pitched 38th consecutive scoreless appearance on april 4 against tampa bay rays, tied mlb record consecutive scoreless appearances set craig kimbrel in 2011.
