foundation
the name Łapy of masovian origin, , represented soubriquet of kin, founded settlement on narew. legend links foundation of town nobleman Łappa of lubicz coat of arms, settled down here during 15th-century masovian colonisation.
the first historical records of these lands come 13th century. known in 1375 płonka kościelna independent parish. firstly Łapy backwater gentry cultivated patriotic traditions. result of village s development, new settlements emerged on eastern , western banks of river narew, water trade route suraż gdańsk in 16th , 17th centuries, , after ww ii puszcza białowieska tykocin; , @ east side of high road suraż płonka.
expansion
following expansion of family, series of backwaters founded, including rechy, brusięta, barwiki, korczaki, pluśniaki, wągle, wity, zięciuki, kosmyki, Łazie, stryjce, wojtysze. of names disappeared replaced others, such as: goździki, dębowizna, bociany, leśniki. after third partition of poland, Łapy lied in prussian part, , in 1887, after tilsit peace treaty, became part of duchy of warsaw, , later, in 1815, of kingdom of poland. important event future history of Łapy napoleonic army s marching through twice in 1812. in 1820s backwaters had 1000 inhabitants , 180 houses. in 1825, fusion of 6 backwaters (Łapy-barwiki, Łapy-leśniki, Łapy-zięciuki, Łapy-wity, Łapy-goździki, Łapy-bociany) produced farm settlement of Łapy.
industrialisation
Łapy owe development warsaw – saint petersburg mainline station here, opened on 15 december 1862, , french having built here works repairing steam locomotives , carriages same year. caused influx of tradesmen , labourers not nearby villages, distant polish locations , russian empire.
in night of 22/23 january 1863, railway station captured group of railwaymen works , władysław cichorski zameczek s insurgent detachment.
the repair works exist today zntk Łapy s.a. played decisive role in Łapy s urbanization, town charter granted on 1 january 1925.
at eve of world war ii, town population reached 8000 citizens. during war operations, town 80% destroyed, , entire local jewish population murdered.
