revival of interest
interest in mrs. oliphant s work declined in 20th century. in mid-1980s, small-scale revival led publishers alan sutton , virago press, centred on carlingford series , similarities of subject-matter work of anthony trollope.
penguin books in 1999 published edition of miss marjoribanks (1866). hester (1873) reissued in 2003 oxford world s classics. in 2007–2009, gloucester publisher dodo press reprinted half dozen of oliphant s works. in 2010, both british library , persephone books reissued mystery of mrs. blencarrow (1890), in latter case novella queen eleanor , fair rosamund (1886), , association scottish literary studies produced new edition of novel kirsteen (1890).
bbc radio 4 broadcast four-hour dramatisation of miss marjoribanks in august/september 1992 , four-hour dramatisation of phoebe junior in may 1995. 70-minute adaptation of hester broadcast on radio 4 in january 2014.
