in 1989 karl kani launched hip hop fashion brand. karl kani (real name carl williams) inspired passion hip hop music , fashion , decided design clothes appealed large public. including friends , celebrities hometown brooklyn, new york.


karl kani philosophy

carl williams symbolizes “american dream”. karl realized childhood dream of combining passion hip hop music , fashion. when karl started clothing line in los angeles, had rough start. question had obsessed him years “ can it?” remained unanswered. kept asking himself: “can it? can build fashion empire? can become ‘ralph lauren of streets’?”


these questions provided basis brandname, kani, variation on can i? . karl replaced “c” stylish “k” , ventured own optimistic reply, karl kani.


karl used expanding appeal of men’s collection launch woman’s line , spread positive message ladies well.

kani ladies launched part of karl kani men’s collection hip hop inspired clothes. clothing appealed urban women enjoy sexy fashion , love hip hop music.


in 1998 kani ladies launched first european collection. started small collection next karl kani men collection has since evolved independent fashion label. slogan “kani ladies, every moment in glamorous life kani ladies inspires young women.


in 2008 kani ladies has officially launched lifestyle blog. blog features news on fashion, beauty, gossip, music, being , kani ladies.
