in 1989 todor zhivkov removed power after 35 years @ helm of communist party.
the reforms towards liberalization, both social, political , economic in eastern bloc started mikhail gorbachev s reform program in soviet union felt in bulgaria in late 1980s. in fact, release of tightening started end of stalinist era , continued point many forbidden literary texts translated, same relevant hollywood movies, etc., stores appeared western products had elements of advertisement (advertisement of products unknown , not used in eastern bloc since accessible , same all), these new features of late communist years acknowledged gradual breaking of iron curtain comcon people. this, policies of gorbachev, led more freedom , expectations democracy among people.
