fort lewis college underwent period of growth , changes starting in 1956, when college moved long-time home in hesperus present location, 18 miles east, atop known reservoir hill, overlooking durango. here, flc became four-year institution, awarding first baccalaureate degrees in 1964.
also in 1964, college dropped a&m moniker. @ time, new fort lewis college changed mascot aggies raiders, , changed school s colors green , yellow of colorado state university system had been affiliated blue , gold still sports today.
in recent history: in 1994, college s mascot became skyhawks, retaining blue , gold. in 1995, fort lewis college joined council of public liberal arts colleges, , in 2002, college became independent of colorado state university system, , formed own governing board of trustees.
