the kingdom of macedon provinces


the definition of macedonia has changed several times throughout history. prior expansion under alexander great, ancient kingdom of macedonia, modern region owes name, lay entirely within central , western parts of current greek province of macedonia , consisted of 17 provinces/districts or eparchies (ancient greek: επαρχία).

with gradual conquest of southeastern europe ottomans in late 14th century, name of macedonia disappeared administrative designation several centuries , displayed on maps. name again revived mean distinct geographical region in 19th century, defining region bounded mount olympus, pindus range, mounts shar , osogovo, western rhodopes, lower course of river mesta (greek nestos) , aegean sea, developing same borders has today.
