the great gasp in operation


when opened in 1976, ride masterpiece of engineering. great gasp derived parachute jump ride @ coney island in new york. ride engineers intamin (also referred ride trade) developed ride @ headquarters in switzerland, , when management 6 flags on georgia visited, knew ride great addition park. ride constructed $1.5 million, huge investment @ time. similar parachute drop rides built @ 6 flags on texas , 6 flags on mid-america.


the great gasp opened 12 chutes; later ride modified include 4 stations in passengers rode in standing position. on years, stand-up chutes removed, , popularity dwindled, number of chutes in use fell.


as popularity of ride fell , spare parts became increasingly difficult obtain, era of great gasp doomed end. on august 14, 2005, 6 flags on georgia announced great gasp cease operation forever. on final weekend, riders given last gasp pins in commemoration of legendary ride s last days. within 3 weeks of last gasp , great gasp dismantled , removed park.
