the el alamein fountain @ entrance fitzroy gardens on corner of darlingurst road , macleay street commissioned memorial soldiers died in 1942 during world war ii in 2 battles @ el alamein, egypt. designed in 1961 new zealand-born architect robert woodward. dandelion design, has since been copied fountains around world, woodward’s original design.
the coca-cola sign, has since been turned off , replaced in 2016 new sign. pieces of original sign auctioned off on ebay proceeds going wayside chapel.
the fire station @ intersection of darlinghurst road , victoria street designed government architect, walter liberty vernon, , built 1910-12. example of federation free style , listed on register of national estate.
kings cross railway station underground railway station on eastern suburbs & illawarra line of sydney trains network.
the les girls building, known empire hotel, stood prominently on corner of darlinghurst road , roslyn street, in heart of cross. 1963 until 1993 building home legendary les girls drag queen show, starring carlotta. throughout 1990s building, still retaining original 1960s features, became home alternative cabaret, including much-loved sunday nightclub tender trap.
