ye had great impact on improving modern chinese language education. brought new idea chinese educators, i.e. students should taught methods of learning, instead of long , detailed content in books. idea breakthrough in traditional chinese education, used rely heavily on memorization , indoctrination. also, ye promoted critical thinking , importance of personal value judgement. suggested these learning skills should built within students , basis students lifelong learning.

readability prominent characteristic in ye s works. means how efficient reader can perceive , understand passage. journalist, ye put great emphasis on use of language. might because had been teacher more 10 years before became editor. thought writings reader , considered writing means of communication between readers , authors. major problem of writers @ period not equipped writing skills. wordings inaccurate , vague in meaning. often, educated people appreciate works. writers neglected importance of practicability. hence, literature not promoted general public. ye thought 1 write artistic unless 1 write practical , understandable. useless if readers not understand content.
