many of festival s organizers originate east germany, , grew in period zappa s music considered unacceptable several eastern european communist countries. 1 of festival s founders, wolfhard kutz, persecuted east german secret police, stasi, being zappa fan. when stasi files declassified german government in 1992, kutz learned file stated knows how influence youth zappa . when berlin wall fell in 1989, kutz openly enjoy passion zappa s music, , founded fan club arf-society . zappanale premiered year after, extended party 1 band playing zappa songs. since then, festival has grown, , more 2,000 attend festival in weekend in august. arf society became officially registered organization in 1993.


in 2002, organizers helped raise money have czech sculptor václav Česák make bronze bust of zappa, placed in centre of bad doberan.
