formation , hold on tight

hey monday formed in march 2008 after cassadee pope , mike gentile s former band blake broke up. pope , gentile wanted continue playing music , began holding auditions new band around local florida music scene. pope , gentile joined forces drummer elliot james recruited rhythm guitarist alex lipshaw. afterward enlisted bassist michael jersey moriarty , hey monday formed. discovered when fall out boy s pete wentz heard 1 of demos while in crush management office. wentz wanted sign them label, decaydance, columbia records interested band ended signing joint deal both labels. recorded debut album, hold on tight, throughout summer of 2008 , released later fall on october 7 minor commercial success; charted on billboard heatseekers albums. after debut album dropped, hey monday began extensive touring likes of academy is..., kings, cab, providence, rocket moon, versaemerge, , cash cash. following year supported fall out boy on both major u.s. , international tours. popularity grew , band went on first headlining tour providence, friday night boys, stereo skyline, , bigger lights support. headlined few dates in europe. in fall of 2009 supported time low on glamour kills tour.

following band s headlining tour in uk, james left band. james went on tour performing group scene aesthetic , began writing , producing music other artists. in mid 2015 launched solo career debuting song honey online. founder of blossöm records.

hey monday spent beginning of 2010 finishing writing , recording of beneath all, going second full-length studio album. after writing , recording process, went on 2010 alternative press tour summer set, every avenue, cab , nevershoutnever. band played bamboozle s main stage on sunday, may 2. hey monday played entire warped tour 2010 on altec lancing stage. band performed 2 songs beneath on jimmy kimmel live on september 22, 2010, lead single don t wanna dance , wish here . although cassadee pope , mike gentile official members of band @ performance fill-in musicians wore shirts absent band member s pictures on them. hey monday appeared in fourth episode of tv series hellcats, called nobody loves me mother .

following band s performance @ warped tour, group announced jersey leaving band. guitarist mike gentile s brother chris gentile has since been filling in on bass. jersey doing solo project , has released ep named oh boy here go.


christmas ep , hiatus (2011–present)

on february 8, 2011, hey monday re-released second ep, candles, digitally , music video candles on march 9. candles used duet on glee s episode original song done kurt hummel , blaine anderson regionals performance. in spring of 2011, hey monday toured time low, yellowcard, , summer set on dirty work tour. in may 2011, hey monday played in indonesia , went on south american tour nevershoutnever following august. in fall of 2011, hey monday departed record labels decaydance , columbia. band self-released christmas ep digitally on december 6, 2011, itunes , other digital outlets; peaked in top 10 of itunes s albums. on december 16 band announced going on hiatus. pope went on win third season of nbc s voice. mike , chris gentile moved on form rescue kid alongside armando , eddie.
