in 20th century, in contact western culture, after national independence, many new categories of arts plays, photography, cinemas, , modern art had taken shape , developed strongly, obtaining huge achievements contents reflecting social , revolutionary realities. 1997, there have been 44 people operating in cultural , artistic fields honored ho chi minh award, 130 others conferred people s artist honor, , 1011 people awarded excellent artist honor. @ start of 1997, there 191 professional artistic organizations , 26 film studios (including central , local ones). there have been 28 movies, 49 scientific , documentary films receiving international motion picture awards in many countries. :)

cải lương: kind of modern folk opera originating in south vietnam, utilizes extensive vibrato techniques. remains popular in modern vietnam when compared other folk styles.
hát chèo: chèo form of satirical musical theatre, encompassing dance, traditionally performed vietnamese peasants in northern vietnam. performed outdoors semi-amateur touring groups, stereotypically in village square or courtyard of public building, although today increasingly performed indoors , professional performers
