gasp opened 12 chutes, although ride control system upgraded , popularity decreased, number reduced 8 chutes.


each seat held 2 riders, , equipped seat belt , restraint bar. stationary cables kept each chute stabilized , in correct position. cable moved seat vertically. inside tower 1 counterweight each chute.


the control system detect empty seats overloaded seats , prevent cycling them. control system hardware located in small ring housing @ base of tower. anemometer mounted @ top of ride, , tied control system prevent operation when wind gusted above preset limit.


a small elevator inside tower allowed access winch , motor housing @ top. tower held antennas in-park radio communications. gasp served focal point of new year s eve celebrations in 1990. huge 1991 sign mounted, , fireworks launched top ring of gasp while peach dropped, 1 still dropped in atlanta, during holiday in park new year s eve celebration on december 31, 1990.
