other colleges no longer in existence @ university of kentucky include college of library science (separating out of college of arts & sciences in 1968 , incorporated in 2003 college of communication , information) , college of home economics (created in 1916 , founding dean mary e. sweeney) school of human environmental sciences located within college of agriculture.
honors program
the honors program @ university of kentucky began in 1961. offers interdisciplinary, seminar-style classes of 15–20 students each h-section classes accelerate common course offerings such chemistry, biology, , physics. program intended supplement individual interests of students. students offered priority registration, one-on-one faculty attention, dedicated advising, opportunity engage in undergraduate research first semesters on campus, , directed other programs, including chellgren fellows program, gaines fellowship in humanities, university scholars program (which allows simultaneous undergraduate , graduate study), , external scholarship opportunities. additionally, students offered assistance fellowship applications, scholarship applications, study abroad opportunities, honors designation on transcript , diploma, and/or service learning interests, among other things.
beginning in 2017, honors program become lewis honors college. housed in new lewis hall.
secu: sec academic initiative
the university of kentucky member of sec academic consortium. renamed secu, initiative collaborative endeavor designed promote research, scholarship , achievement among member universities in southeastern conference (sec). secu formed mission serve means bolster collaborative academic endeavors of sec universities. goals include highlighting endeavors , achievements of sec faculty, students , universities , advancing academic reputation of sec universities.
