the ganderbal district located in valley of sindh river, known nallah sindh. rich in landscape , called district of lakes, possesses highest number of lakes in state of jammu , kashmir.


sonamarg

this famous hill station situated 80 kilometres (50 mi) srinagar , located on banks of sindh river @ altitude of 2,800 meters. sonamarg hosts international championships of rafting on sindh river. presents glamorous due alpine meadows, snow-clad mountains, , healthy climate. sonamarg skirts sindh river , torrential flow of water in river enriches awesome beauty. besides several hotels in private sector have come here , these hotels provide modern facilities guests. number of treks in region begin sonamarg high altitude lakes of vishansar, krishansar, gadsar , gangabal stocked snow trout , brown trout.


manasbal lake

manasbal lake main attraction tourists in ganderbal district, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) north west of district headquarters of ganderbal. 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) long , 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) wide. located in jhelum valley, north of srinagar city in state of jammu , kashmir in india. name manasbal said derivative of lake manasarovar. lake encircled 3 villages: jarokbal, kondabal (also called kiln place; situated on north-eastern side of lake) , ganderbal , stated deepest lake (at 13 m or 43 ft depth) in kashmir valley. large growth of lotus (nelumbo nucifera) @ periphery of lake (blooms during july , august) adds beauty of clear waters of lake. mughal garden, called garoka, (meaning bay window) built nur jahan overlooks lake.


the lake place birdwatching 1 of largest natural stamping grounds of aquatic birds in kashmir , has sobriquet of supreme gem of kashmir lakes . rootstocks of lotus plant grows extensively in lake harvested , marketed, , eaten local people.


the lake approached srinagar 30-kilometre (19 mi) road via shadipur, nasim , gandarbal. road wular lake, largest lake in kashmir, passes through lake, via safapur.

prang village 12 kilometres far central hub (beehama) of district ganderbal, towards east. srinagar-leh national highway (nh 1d) passes right through middle of village. village falls under jurisdiction of tehsil kangan.

the prang garden used picnic spot in 1990 s before army came , established base camp there. however, army camp later evacuated garden in year 2008. garden situated on banks of famous sindh river , , forested slopes on other side of garden adding more charm beauty. famous environmental park (usually known dumping park ) in adjacent village of prang.

harmukh (also known mount haramukh or harmukh mountain) mountain peak elevation of 16,890 ft (5,148 metres), in ganderbal district of indian state of jammu & kashmir. harmukh part of himalaya range, , located between sindh river south , neelum river north. rises gangabal lake in vicinity of kashmir valley. more hazardous reach mount haramukh east , south side of ganderbal , has never been climbed these sides; thus, climbed in north-west arin bandipore side.


harmukh first climbed great trigonometric survey s thomas montgomerie in 1856 , made first survey of karakoram 210 km (130 miles) south, , sketched 2 prominent peaks, labelling them k1 , k2. harmukh later climbed many other climbers. therefore, harmukh mountain world‘s 2nd highiest mountain peak k2 discovered , serveyer‘s mark k2 continues name.


gangabal lake

gangabal lake (urdu:-ﮔﻨﮕﺒﻞ ﺟﮭﻴﻞ), called gangbal lake, lake situated @ foothills of mount haramukh (the highest mountain peak in vicinity of kashmir valley) in ganderbal district, north of srinagar city in state of jammu , kashmir in india. alpine high altitude oligotrophic lake, , home many types of fishes of 1 brown trout.


the lake has maximum length of 2.5 kilometres (1.6 mi) , maximum width of 1 kilometre (0.62 mi). fed precipitation, glaciers , springs. lake water outflows nearby small lake (nundakol) , via wangath nallah sindh river trout fishes present in lake.


gangabal lake approached srinagar 45 kilometres (28 mi) road via ganderbal naranag , 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) track upslope.
